How to Type Japanese on Your Computer

Follow the instructions below for your operating system to set up Japanese keyboard input.

macOS

  1. 1Our Japanese typing practice uses romaji input - no special keyboard setup is needed.
  2. 2Simply type the romaji shown in the hint bar using your standard keyboard.
  3. 3Optional: To set up a full Japanese IME, go to System Settings > Keyboard > Input Sources and add "Japanese - Romaji".
